Hunan University is committed to thoroughly implementing President Xi Jinping's important remarks on China-Africa relations and actively serves the national strategy of China-Africa cooperation. It has successively been included in the Ministry of Education’s "20+20 Cooperation Program for Chinese and African Universities", the BRICS Network University Alliance, the "China-Africa 100 Universities Cooperation Program" (in the field of "trade and investment"), and also established platforms such as the China-Africa Economic & Trade Research Institute, the China-Africa Cultural Exchange Center, and the Intelligent Lab for China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation to promote the high-quality development of China-Africa cooperation.
Institute of African Studies was established in October 2024, as the first secondary-level entity teaching and research unit focusing on African regional studies among domestic "Double First-Class " construction universities. Based on the two national platforms for China-Africa economic and trade cooperation settled in Hunan—the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo and the China-Africa Economic and Trade In-depth Cooperation Pilot Zone, relying on the university's advantageous disciplines such as Economics and Business (ranked among the top 1% globally in ESI) and International Trade (a national key discipline), leveraging the unique characteristics of platforms including the National Supercomputing Changsha Center (the third of its kind nationwide and the first in central and western China) and the "Millennium Academy" Yuelu Academy, inheriting the educational philosophy of the first batch of domestic industrial foreign trade majors, and guided by China-Africa economic and trade cooperation, we are committed to building a first-class talent team, focusing on the construction of country and region studies, and creating a research highland with international reputation, authority and influence.
